The question Oct. 12: Director Roman Polanski may be negotiating with prosecutors and the courts to return to the United States after fleeing in 1978 to avoid sentencing for having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl. Should he be allowed back in the country without facing further punishment?

What good will Polanski’s going to jail accomplish? Rehabilitation? Punishment? His exile and time served are punishment enough. Let him return and make films here.

Of course Roman should be allowed back into the United States without facing punishment.

After all, what’s the life of a 13-year-old girl or any young girl worth compared to the millions Roman can make for the studios?

And people think we don’t have our priorities straight.

May I suggest community service? How about a cross-country, college campus lecture tour with Joey Buttafuoco?

No deals should be made. He should face the court system just like anyone else would have to. What did he prove by leaving the country?

Roman Polanski definitely paid. He lost his wife in one of the most brutal murders of the century.

Let him come back. Enough is enough.

A celebrity committing such a crime against a child should be burned just like the average Joe would be.

A 13-year-old girl does not understand sexuality fully. Chances are excellent the experience harmed her.
