The mayor and a developer have announced a jobs program in which young people will work on a new housing development.

The partnership will offer an opportunity for hands-on work experience in construction and landscaping as well as educational seminars about opportunities in the real estate and development industry.

“The city of Lynwood is very excited that the Lee Group is extending this opportunity,” Mayor Paul Richards said. “To have the opportunity to jump-start a hands-on learning experience for our youth is terrific.”

The Jobs for Youth program will employ about 80 young people during the construction of the Emerald Village housing development--65 single-family detached homes on Atlantic Avenue.

Twenty young people began working Monday to help complete the first 15 homes. Participants will be paid $6 an hour for hands-on work and for attendance at the educational seminars.
