City Council members will formally hire a new city manager at their meeting Monday, ending a six-month search for a replacement.

David A. Berger, 46, who most recently served as city manager for Hesperia in San Bernardino County, will take office Oct. 1, said Mayor Arthur C. Brown.

Council members said they chose Berger over more than 50 applicants because of his business and government background.

Berger had worked as a vice president at CH2M Hill, an international civil engineering and environmental firm with offices in Santa Ana. He also was city manager for several Bay Area cities.

Berger’s salary will be from $95,000 to $115,000, Brown said.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 6650 Beach Blvd.
