State Board to Weigh Polluted Water Plan
A state water board today will consider a plan to divert polluted water from Aliso Creek to an ocean outfall line 6,700 feet offshore.
The project involves building a temporary sand berm in the creek about 300 feet upstream from Coast Highway to create a pool from which water can be pumped through a pipeline and into the ocean. The goal is to keep polluted water from collecting at Aliso Beach, where children tend to play despite signs warning that the water is contaminated.
The California Regional Water Quality Control Board is being asked to allow the water to be diverted from May 1 through Oct. 15. The project is proposed by the Aliso Water Management Agency, which treats waste water from six cities and water districts within the Aliso Creek watershed area.
The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at the San Diego Wastewater Management District Board Room at 600 B St., 3rd Floor, in San Diego. Information: (619) 627-3929.
