Drawing Some Comparisons
* Two Sept. 10 stories tell of highly educated and successful politicians, Rep. Jay C. Kim (R-Diamond Bar) and Assemblyman Scott Baugh (R-Huntington Beach).
One pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor violations and the other faces 13 charges of violating the campaign law. Both gentlemen, and their supporters, downplayed the importance of the violations and attributed them to their misunderstanding of campaign law.
On the other hand, legal immigrants who have passed the citizenship exam and may have voted before their swearing-in ceremony are tagged as criminals, mostly by the same group that defends the above political characters.
Which bring me to this conclusion: If you are or become a U.S. citizen, you will be forgiven for being ignorant of the law, even if you are a member of the legislative branch of government.
