Togo West Jr. OKd for Veterans Post
From Times Wire Reports
Former Army Secretary Togo West Jr. has won Senate confirmation as secretary of Veterans Affairs, a Cabinet post he has held on an acting basis since Jan. 2. The veterans post was left vacant when Jesse Brown resigned last summer and Hershel W. Gober, Clinton’s first pick to replace Brown, bowed out under pressure. West joined the Army in 1969 and was commissioned an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He left the Army in 1973 to become associate deputy attorney general in the Justice Department.
