Cal Lutheran Golfers Again Dominate in Conference
Coach Jeff Lindgren can make a strong case for his Cal Lutheran men’s golf team in terms of athletic supremacy.
The Kingsmen claimed their sixth consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title despite finishing second to Occidental in the conference championships Monday.
Cal Lutheran won six of seven dual matches, captured the conference’s first tournament and was runner-up to Redlands in the second event.
The Kingsmen placed three players on the All-SCIAC team: senior David Richardson, the player of the year; junior Clint Elsemore and sophomore Trevor Coates. Senior Jeremy White was selected to the second team.
VOLLEYBALL
Local battle: It was a Valley victory over Ventura when UCLA’s Tom Stillwell, a former Notre Dame High player, and Matt Prosser of Long Beach State, an ex-Buena High middle blocker, met in the MPSF semifinals last week. Stillwell and the Bruins came away victorious.
Stillwell, a senior, had 14 kills and a .722 hitting percentage and Prosser, a freshman, had nine kills and a .263 percentage.
“From here on out, all I get is experience,” said Prosser, a Times’ all-area selection last year at Buena.
On the tube: The NCAA Division I men’s volleyball Final Four in Hawaii will be televised on ESPN2 at 9:30 p.m. PDT tonight through Saturday.
In a live telecast, Illinois Lewis University will play UCLA in one semifinal tonight.
The other semifinal (Pepperdine-Princeton) will be shown on tape-delay on Friday.
