* Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., the world’s largest owner of hotels, along with an investment group, acquired the 760-room Westin Maui hotel from Japan’s Kaukani Inc. for $132 million in cash to enter the Hawaiian luxury resort market. The Westin Maui, Starwood’s first purchase in Hawaii, adds a company-owned asset to the eight Sheraton and four Prince hotels franchised by Starwood on the islands.

* The federal government would pay about $4 million for a Teamsters rerun election under a congressional agreement received by a federal judge. Teamster officials, however, continued to argue that the government is obligated to pay for the entire $8.6-million cost of the fall election.

* Belinda A. Blaine, a counselor to Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Arthur Levitt, has been named SEC associate director for market regulation. She replaces Howard Kramer, who left the commission last month to join a private law firm.
