1994 Bodegas Roda “Roda I Reserva,” Rioja (About $40)
This gorgeous reserva, a terrific example of modern Spanish winemaking (unfiltered, aged in French oak), has a great deal of varietal character from its blend of 83% old-vine Tempranillo and 17% Grenache--and none of the oxidized notes of an old-school Rioja. With its deep ruby color, alluringly sweet nose and velvety fruit, it’s wine to fall in love with.
Available at Mission Wines in Pasadena, Woodland Hills Wine Co., Wine Exchange in Orange and Hi-Times Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, among others.
