* Golf Tournament: For information about the golf tournament celebrating Guide Dogs of America’s 50th anniversary, call (818) 831-8911. The tournament will be held Monday at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.
* Getting Involved: Anyone wanting information about applications to raise guide dogs or to be put on the waiting list to adopt dogs may call Guide Dogs of America in Sylmar at (818) 362-5834.
People who want to raise puppies must be interviewed before a puppy can be placed in their home. Applicants must have a fenced yard. Food and any items purchased for the puppy are tax-deductible. Veterinary bills paid by foster families are reimbursed by Guide Dogs of America.
* Getting Help: Legally blind people who would like to obtain a guide dog should be at least 16. Applicants must submit a report from a physician. The application will ask about previous pet ownership and previous use of guide dogs. Applicants should call the Sylmar program at (818) 362-5834.
