*** Nanci Griffith, “Other Voices, Too,” Elektra. On her second hootenanny side trip, Griffith and a gaggle of guests--including Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett--clearly have a blast, whether nearly giggling on Ian & Sylvia’s “You Were on My Mind” or earnestly trading lines on Woody Guthrie’s “Plane Wreck at Los Gatos.” The material--chestnuts and obscurities from several generations of folk--is terrific. But the camaraderie and community of folk tradition fuel the project.
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
