Man, 90, Struck, Killed While Jaywalking
A 90-year-old man who was crossing a street illegally at mid-block early Friday was struck and killed by a motorist, according to authorities.
Sidney Barkan appeared to be taking an early morning walk in his neighborhood when he was killed, said Los Angeles Police Officer Mary Brady.
The accident occurred about 5:45 a.m. on Roscoe Boulevard east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, according to authorities. “The pedestrian was jaywalking across the street,” Brady said.
Barkan was pronounced dead at the scene, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The driver, who was traveling east on Roscoe, was interviewed at the scene but was not cited or arrested, said Brady, adding that the driver did not see the man crossing the street.
