Fall From Window Seriously Injures Tot
An 18-month-old boy was in serious condition Friday night at Ventura County Medical Center after falling earlier in the day from a second-story window, authorities said.
Sean Garcia of Ventura was in the hospital’s intensive care unit after being transferred there from Westside Urgent Care Center, hospital and fire officials said.
Sean suffered a skull fracture when he fell out a living-room window at his family’s apartment on Olive Street, Ventura Fire Capt. Myles Smith said. The boy fell about 15 feet, fire officials said.
Sean’s mother, who was not identified, was washing dishes in another room when her son climbed onto a couch to reach the window, fire officials said. She was interviewed by police, and fire officials said she was distraught.
Paramedics were called to the urgent care center at 133 W. Santa Clara St. about 4:45 p.m., after Sean’s mother arrived there with her son and doctors realized the boy would need specialized medical attention.
“They really aren’t equipped to treat what they suspected was a serious injury,” Ventura Fire Chief Mike Maher said.
