Flu Alert Issued for State, Yukon

An outbreak of more than 1,600 influenza and pneumonia cases in Alaska and the Yukon territory prompted federal health officials to issue a travel advisory. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta said people who are 65 and older or who have chronic medical conditions should consult with their physicians before traveling to the regions. An elderly woman may have died of the flu, Dr. Martin Cetron of the CDC’s National Center for Infectious Diseases said.
