Scandal Surfing: Plenty of people have said the Monica Lewinsky scandal is driving them crazy--but it’s also driving many to the World Wide Web.
Last Monday and Tuesday--peak days for the Zippergate affair--traffic to news-related sites rose 43% compared with the same days the previous week, according to RelevantKnowledge, an Atlanta firm that tracks Web usage. More than 3.5 million people visited 11 major news sites--including https://www.latimes.com--during the two-day period.
Allpolitics.com (https://www.allpolitics.com) was the big winner, with traffic surging 236%. Visits to the Washington Post’s site (https://www.washingtonpost.com) rose 81%, and CNN’s site (https://www.cnn.com) posted a 75% increase in traffic.
