Red Cross to Offer Series of Basic Classes
A Tuesday class on responding to workplace emergencies will be the first in a September series of American Red Cross health and safety courses offering basic training for life-threatening situations.
“We’re holding the classes to train people how to respond and not to panic in emergency situations of all kinds,” said Claudia Darcy, a Red Cross spokeswoman.
The class at the Red Cross Service Center, 14717 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, trains workers to recognize and handle life-threatening emergencies, such as respiratory or cardiac problems, sudden illness and injury.
The Community First Aid and Safety series will teach individuals and families basic first aid, as well as CPR techniques.
First Aid Basics explains simple skills in a reduced four-hour format, and Community CPR trains individuals to recognize and react to life-threatening situations.
The Red Cross will also offer classes aimed at more specific needs, such as CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Sport Safety Training, Infant and Child CPR and Pet First Aid.
Tuesday’s Standard First Aid Class will be from 6 to 10 p.m.
All classes are scheduled to take place either at the Red Cross Service Center or at the Fallbrook Mall, 6633 Fallbrook Ave., West Hills.
Cost varies with each course.
