Water Main Rupture Closes Road
WOODLAND HILLS — A ruptured water main buckled pavement on portions of Valley Circle Drive on Tuesday afternoon, causing authorities to close both sides of the four-lane roadway for at least a day, police said.
The roadway was shut down between Calvert and Caris streets after the main burst about 3 p.m., according to Sgt. Jay Bender of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley Division.
Authorities said they did not believe the mishap was weather related.
“The damage to the road is not very deep, but it’s big enough to mess up traffic,” Bender said. “Part of Valley Circle is going to be closed for a day or two.”
The closure, just before the evening rush hour, added to commuting woes in the West Valley on a day when a steady rain fell across the region, slicking roads and contributing to a rash of traffic accidents.
Damage to the road was confined largely to the asphalt surface, said LAPD Sgt. Bill Heard. Two spots were torn up, the largest about 30 feet long by 15 feet wide.
