NEWPORT BEACH
The state Court of Appeals has upheld city ordinances regulating adult businesses, including prohibitions on nude dancing. In June, the city forced the closure of the Mermaid, Newport Beach’s only adult dance club, when investigators said the club violated the rule that dancers and patrons remain six feet apart at all times. The club appealed the ruling and the court handed down its decision last week.
The court also upheld the regulation prohibiting patrons from tipping dancers directly, and said the City Council had ample evidence of the violations when it revoked the Mermaid’s business permit.
