Bee Stings Send Road Worker to Hospital
MALIBU — A county worker was airlifted to a hospital Monday after he was stung about a dozen times by bees while working on a road crew in Malibu.
Ike Gent, 33, was working off the side of the road near Pacific Coast Highway and Kanan Dume Road when he was attacked by a swarm of bees, said county Fire Inspector Henry Rodriguez.
The stings, which were on Gent’s head and ankles, were not considered life-threatening, Rodriguez said.
“He walked into some bushes and disrupted some bees,” Rodriguez said. “He stated that he had some medical problems and might get a reaction, so we airlifted him out as a precaution.”
Gent was treated at the UCLA Medical Center and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
