City, School District Plan Tennis Courts

Moorpark High School’s tennis program could get a boost from a $352,000 plan by the school district and the city to build eight tennis courts at Arroyo Vista Community Park.

Chris Wright, the high school’s tennis coach for the past two years, said tennis programs for Moorpark youth are lacking because there aren’t enough courts to practice on. Although the city has a tennis program, Wright said, the lack of facilities leaves Moorpark youths turning to tennis programs of Thousand Oaks and other cities to learn the game.

In the past, his team used two of three tennis courts--the only public courts in the city--at Tierra Rejada Park up the street from the high school.

The agencies will split the cost of the project, said Mary Lindley, the city’s director of community services.
