Berg Quits as Fountain Valley Coach
George Berg has resigned as the Fountain Valley football coach, Athletic Director Mike Henigan said Wednesday.
Berg was 50-35-2 in eight seasons at Fountain Valley. This past season the Barons were 7-4 and finished third in the Sunset League. They lost in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs to eventual Division I champion Mater Dei.
“He’s done a great job,” Henigan said of Berg. “He could be our football coach from now until kingdom come if he wanted. He’s done it for eight years. He wants to get on with the rest of his life.”

Linebacker Brian Berg, who earned all-state honors at Saddleback College, has committed to play for San Diego State, Saddleback defensive coordinator Don Butcher said.
At Saddleback, Berg broke Andy Osborne’s career record for tackles. Osborne completed his eligibility at San Diego State this year, and Berg could replace him at middle linebacker for the Aztecs.
