Fire Victim Not Improving
SAN JOSE — A 10-year-old girl whose father and two siblings died in a Christmas Day house fire was still in critical condition Saturday.
Kaylianne Hirsch suffered smoke inhalation and burns in the fire at her Santa Clara home and remained on a respirator at a San Jose hospital.
“Her condition is awful. It’s really bad and she’s not improving,” said Dallas Allen, a nursing supervisor at Valley Medical Center.
Kaylianne’s sister Amanda, 7, her brother Gregory, 9, and their father, Todd, 34, died in the blaze. Her mother, Debbie Hirsch, escaped with another son, 3-year-old Trevor.
The father, a house painter, and the mother, a senior administrator with Cadence Design Systems of San Jose, had apparently been up until about 2 a.m. wrapping presents for their children, said Felix Diaz, a longtime family friend.
Officials were still investigating the cause of the fire.
