Barnett Scores 25 for Rosary
Maggie Barnett’s driving bank shot with five seconds left helped lift Rosary to a 58-55 victory over Reno in the first round of the Marina girls’ basketball tournament Saturday.
Barnett’s basket gave the Royals a 56-55 lead, and she added two free-throws with four seconds remaining after a Reno turnover.
Barnett scored a game-high 25 and said the Royals (9-4) probably would have lost a similar game earlier in the season.
“Even though we’re real young, we’re strong and disciplined,” said Barnett, a junior who starts with three sophomores and a senior. “Our experience [in losses to Edison, Troy, Mater Dei and Marina] has enabled us to finish in the big games now.”
Rosary finished the Huskies (8-2) by outscoring them in the fourth quarter, 17-9.
Rosary advances to play Huntington Beach in the second round Monday.
