It’s gotten so quiet at the shopping center at North Puente Street and West Central Avenue that some of the residents refer to the area as the “non-shopping center.” The pharmacy and Ralphs, the major anchor, left several years ago. No new tenants have filled those buildings.

The city’s Development Committee will talk to the city staff Monday to discuss whether there’s anything the city can do to bring in new tenants. This is especially important, said City Councilman Roy Moore, because there are many senior citizens who moved to mobile home parks across the street with the idea of being able to shop within walking distance.

The 8 a.m. meeting is open to the public and will be in executive conference Room E on the third level at 1 Civic Center Circle.
