Regional Duo Plays Strong for Gauchos
Former Simi Valley High player Tawnee Cooper and former Buena center Nicole Greathouse, The Times’ 1995-96 and ‘96-97 Ventura County players of the year, have played key roles for the UC Santa Barbara women’s basketball team.
Greathouse, a freshman who guided Buena to consecutive Southern Section Division I-A championships, is averaging 10.5 points and seven rebounds for the Gauchos (13-5).
Cooper, a sophomore, averages 10.3 points.

Pivnick pain: California women’s soccer Coach Kevin Boyd said sophomore Tami Pivnick, a former Chaminade standout, will likely receive a medical redshirt year after playing in only one game last season because of an ankle injury.
Pivnick, a midfielder and Chaminade’s career scoring leader, played in only eight games as a freshman after sustaining a stress fracture to a bone in her leg.
Boyd is confident an NCAA committee will restore her sophomore year of eligibility at a hearing later this month.
