Police Station Intruder Critically Injures Officer
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — A man with a lengthy criminal record walked into a police station early Sunday, jumped a desk officer and opened fire, critically injuring another officer and getting shot himself.
The commotion about 2 a.m. brought Lt. Patrick Robinson running to the desk officer’s aid, but the assailant got hold of Robinson’s service revolver and shot the lieutenant twice, Police Director Michael Moriarty said.
When a third officer, Sgt. Ed Caratini, heard the noise, he fired at William Marable, missing the first time, Moriarty said. Marable, 27, then lunged at Caratini and he fired again, hitting Marable in the chest.
Marable was in stable condition and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and a weapons violation.
