Closure of Three Streets Extended for 18 Months
The City Council has unanimously approved an 18-month extension of the closure of three streets off Skyline Drive where crime and trash dumping have been a problem.
The roads are atop a hill where Signal Hill Petroleum operates several oil wells, Long Beach has a communications facility and Signal Hill houses a water tank. There are no houses on the hill.
“We’ve had our share of problems up there,” City Manager Ken Farfsing said. The roads were closed in 1995 because people were dumping trash, abandoning cars, selling drugs and soliciting prostitution.
The three closed streets are Raymond, Junipero and Stanley avenues.
