Officials Want to Open Pool at Reserve Center
Officials are pushing to open the swimming pool at the Armed Forces Reserve Center for community recreation programs.
Representatives from Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Cypress and Seal Beach met recently with base commanders to discuss plans to reopen the Olympic-size pool.
The outdoor complex was last used in 1996 by the U.S. Water Polo Federation to train for the Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta.
The federation, which made major improvements to the pool, has expressed interest in training there again and is willing to share the center with residents, Los Alamitos Mayor Ronald Bates said.
“It has been upgraded from a mudhole, basically, to usable facility,” Bates said.
An estimated $300,000 in work to recondition heating systems, add a locker room and other tasks still is needed.
