Fire Guts Furniture Manufacturing Business
A fire gutted a furniture manufacturing business in Los Angeles’ Hyde Park area and a firefighter was slightly injured as he and nearly 150 colleagues worked to put out the blaze, a Fire Department spokesman said Friday.
The fire at S & S Furniture Manufacturing, 6235 S. St. Andrews Place, was reported just before midnight Thursday, spokesman Bob Collis said.
The blaze was burning through the roof of the 50,000-square-foot brick building when firefighters arrived and 90% of the roof caved in, Collis said.
Some firefighters were inside the building at the time, but they escaped without injury and continued dousing the fire, he said. The nature of the injury to the firefighter was not disclosed, but he was examined and cleared to rejoin the firefighting effort shortly afterward, Collis said.
