4 Schools to Compete in Mock-Trial Finals
One private and three public high schools will square off today for the final round of the Ventura County mock-trial competition.
Camarillo, Buena and Westlake public high schools, as well as La Reina High School in Thousand Oaks, scored the most points of 16 teams competing in preliminary matches this week.
The nine-member teams of students--playing the roles of lawyers, defendants and witnesses--will compete for first prize today at the Ventura County Hall of Justice. After two rounds, the winner will be announced about 1 p.m. That team will go on to compete in the state mock trial in Sacramento on March 27-29.
“We’re very excited--we’re very happy,” said Eileen DeBruno, coach for La Reina’s team, which has won the past four years.
Thousand Oaks High School, La Reina’s usual rival for the top spot, did not make the final cut.
