William ‘Lonie’ Mahan; Retired Plant Operator
Longtime Moorpark resident William Alonzo Mahan, a retired plant operator with Local 12 Operating Engineers, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 81.
“Lonie” was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Roberts, Idaho. He was a volunteer and board member with many charitable organizations, including the Moorpark Lions Club and Senior Nutrition Program.
He was a longtime member of the California Fireman’s Assn. and volunteered with the Ventura County Fire Department. Mahan was a scoutmaster for many years and also belonged to American Legion Post 502 in Moorpark.
Mahan also was a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille; sons Bill of Oroville, Calif., and Edward of Saskatoon, Canada; daughters Linda Leslie Allen of Camarillo and Lori McMaster of Santa Clarita; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and brother LaVaun D. Mahan of Ventura.
Services will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, Camarillo.
