3rd Beating Victim Is Identified
LA HABRA — Police on Sunday continued to investigate the severe beating of three men at an auto repair shop.
Police confirmed the identity of the third victim as David Mendoza but did not know his age or city of residence. All three men beaten in Dr. Don’s Automotive on Saturday remained in critical condition, authorities said.
Witnesses have said the men’s hands were tied. Police said the beating did not appear to be part of a robbery and have released no information about a motive for the attack.
Investigators “have been there all night and all day. They’re still working,” said Sgt. Dave Cuen of the La Habra Police Department.
The other victims are Don Gilchrist, 41, of Bellflower, the owner of the shop; and Cornelius Postma, 41, of La Habra.
The three men were found beaten so severely that investigators at first were unable to tell if they also had been shot. Officers recovered the weapons thought to have been used in the attack, which were being checked for fingerprints.
Police released no further information Sunday.
