Ochoa Carries Hart Past Saugus, 2-1

Jose Ochoa scored with less than five minutes remaining to lift Hart High to a 2-1 boys’ soccer victory over Saugus in a Foothill League opener Friday at Saugus.

Chris Holcomb scored midway through the second half for Saugus (6-6-2) to tie the score at 1-1. Chris James scored in the first half for the Indians.

Calabasas 3, Malibu 0--Ben Cohen had two goals and Brian Lando had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes (8-2, 1-0) in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.

Burroughs 1, Burbank 1--Salvador Corona scored in the 70th minute for Burbank (3-5-1, 0-0-1) to forge a tie in a Foothill League opener at Burbank.

Gary Guenther scored off a corner kick by Miguel Meneses to put the Indians (8-1-5, 0-0-1) ahead in the first half.

Loyola 3, Crespi 1--Jimmy Sharp had the goal for the Celts (5-6-2, 1-1) in a Mission League opener at Crespi.

Highland 4, Littlerock 1--Josh Lowe scored two second-half goals for the Bulldogs (8-4-2, 1-0), who were tied, 1-1, with the Lobos (7-3, 0-1) at halftime in a Golden League game at Highland.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Canyon 1, Valencia 0--Nicki Melillo scored her third goal of the season in the 70th minute off a cross over the goalkeeper’s head for the Cowboys (4-2-3, 1-0) in a Foothill League victory at Canyon.

Canyon goalkeeper Tealena Baltad recorded her fourth shutout on the season.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Burroughs 5, Ramona 2--Sarah Vejar scored twice and Shareen Pena had eight saves for the Indians (6-4) in a third-round game of the Western tournament.

The victory advanced Burroughs to the championship pool, where it faces Anaheim Canyon at 11 a.m. today and Esperanza at 7 p.m.

In an earlier second-round game, Vejar had seven goals in a 14-5 victory over host Western.
