Council Votes to Restore Hours at City Hall Offices

Beginning next month, City Hall will no longer be closed every other Friday.

After residents complained about the shortened hours, the City Council has abandoned the policy, which began several years ago when some municipalities closed shop on alternate Fridays to reduce employee trips and pollution.

The new Temple City schedule will take effect Feb. 27. Officials plan to open city offices from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District, which had proposed penalties for businesses that failed to reduce pollution, has recently made voluntary some of the requirements governing municipalities. The number of city halls countywide closed on Fridays has declined from more than 80 in 1995 to slightly more than 40.
