Textile Firm Seeking Loan for Expansion
A textile company is seeking a $150,000 Redevelopment Agency loan to rehabilitate an old packinghouse that would be used for business expansion.
The City Council tonight will consider the request from Steven Harsey, owner of Harsey and Associates Inc. The company, which has operated for 11 years at 570 S. Melrose St., distributes fabrics and related products for the home furnishings industry.
The company said it needs more space to expand its hand-silk screening operations; Harsey is negotiating to buy the packinghouse at Bradford and Crowther avenues, which is within a redevelopment project area and needs about $150,000 in repairs and improvements.
Since a goal of the Redevelopment Agency is to eliminate blight, upgrading the building would help revitalize the area, city staff members said.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave. Information: (714) 993-8231.
