Tip Leads to Arrest of Suspect in Bank Holdups
The “Raider Bandit,” a suspect in at least half a dozen bank holdups in Los Angeles and Orange counties, has been arrested outside a Norwalk liquor store, authorities said.
Phillip Dominguez, 18, of Norwalk was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Whittier police, said Officer Chuck Drylie.
The arrest resulted from a tip called into a television station by someone who recognized the suspect from news broadcasts earlier this month, the officer said.
At Dominguez’s home, police discovered a .25-caliber handgun as well as clothing and towels stained red with a special dye that banks place with packets of money in an effort to identify robbers, Drylie said.
Officers seized other evidence, including a Raider sweatshirt and baseball cap like the one the robber wore. Police said the cap links Dominguez to holdups in Whittier, La Habra, Anaheim and Artesia.
Dominguez was booked on suspicion of bank robbery and is being held without bail, Drylie said.
