Police Want to Spend $304,477 for New Cars

Police officials propose buying 14 new squad cars for $304,477, replacing worn-out or damaged vehicles.

Cars would be bought locally from Theodore Robins Ford on Harbor Boulevard, which beat out 15 other bidders. One percent of the funds would return to the city through sales taxes.

The units would come painted white with identification markings. City staff members determined that such cruisers are safer than more traditional models painted black and white.

The City Council will consider the purchase at 7 p.m. Monday in City Hall, 77 Fair Drive.
