Two bandits posing as flower deliverymen pulled guns, tied up and robbed a mother and son Friday afternoon before fleeing with cash and jewelry, authorities said.

A 57-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son were in the backyard of their home in the 8100 block of Matilija Avenue about 2 p.m. when they were approached by two men. One carried flowers, said Los Angeles Police Officer Don Cox.

“They came in doing the florist routine and then pulled guns,” said Det. Greg DeMirjian.

The men forced the mother and son into a detached family room, where they tied them with a telephone cord, authorities said. One of the men stayed with the victims while the other ransacked the main house.

An 80-year-old bedridden woman was in another bedroom during the heist. But when one of the robbers entered her room, he closed the door and left her alone, DeMirjian said.

The mother and son suffered wrist cuts from the cord but were otherwise uninjured, authorities said.

The two robbers were described as between 20 and 25 years old. They fled in a new teal minivan, believed to be driven by a third person, police said.
