Crews to Demonstrate Sandbagging

Sandbagging and other property protection techniques will be demonstrated at Constitution Park next to Camarillo City Hall at 1 p.m. today.

During the one-hour demonstration, crews from the California Conservation Corps will illustrate how to properly fill sandbags and place them on property to build a defense against water damage.

The CCC has been offering these demonstrations around Ventura County the last several weeks to keep residents mindful of this winter’s possibilities.

“We’re not out of the woods yet,” said Bob Yearwood, special programs coordinator at the Camarillo CCC office.

“While El Nino has not yet lived up to its reputation, we’ve still got a couple of months of rainy weather ahead of us,” Yearwood said. “We think it’s a good idea to help folks prepare for the possibility of flooding problems in this area.”

The demonstration will be canceled only in the event of torrential rainfall.
