InSight Services Corp. in Newport Beach said Wednesday that Chief Operating Officer Glenn P. Cato resigned and that Chief Financial Officer Thomas V. Croal will replace him.

Cato had been the company’s chief operating officer since it was formed by the merger of Maxum Health Corp. and American Health Services Corp. in 1996.

Company officials say Cato resigned to be with his family, which had remained in Texas since the merger.

“He had been commuting between here and Dallas for those two years,” Croal said Wednesday. “He decided that he wanted to stay in Dallas. He’s got high school- and college-age kids and wanted to spend more time being at home.”

Croal said his promotion signals no change in direction for the company, which provides diagnostic imaging and related services for managed-care companies, hospitals and other customers.
