Cause of Motorcycle Crash Still a Mystery

Despite a lengthy investigation, police have been unable to explain why an Anaheim motorcyclist drifted off the road before crashing into a fire hydrant in March.

Chester B. Sill, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene of the March 22 crash at Santiago Canyon Road near Kennymead Street. Alcohol was not a factor, said Orange Traffic Investigator Ken Adams, adding that witnesses said Sill was not speeding.

Sill was a cautious and experienced motorcyclist, said his wife, Colleen, who had been hoping the investigation would provide some answers.

“Why does someone who has been riding a bike for 31 years leave the road?” she said. “I think it would have been easier if they had found a reason. But they didn’t, and we’ll never know what happened.”
