After more than two years of legal classes, it was Compton High School students’ turn to give judgment Friday morning when they honored two judges from the nearby courthouse for their work at the school.

At a special school assembly, students presented Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard L. Fruin Jr. and Compton Municipal Court Presiding Judge Ronald V. Skyers with awards of appreciation for developing a course explaining the dynamics of the justice system.

The judges began teaching in the spring of 1996, explaining legal concepts and practices to students taking government and history classes.

Students were taught about the legal rights of juveniles, constitutional protections against stops and searches, serving on a jury, courtroom procedures and forging a career in law. For the final class, students visited the courthouse to watch trials.
