Bomb Kills Another Council Member
A bomb attack blamed on the Basque separatist group ETA killed Renteria Town Council member Manuel Zamarreno, six months after his predecessor was shot to death by the same group. Authorities said Zamarreno, 42, a member of Spain’s ruling Popular Party, was killed when a bomb exploded as he walked past a parked motorcycle. Zamarreno, a laid-off metalworker, had only recently taken over the council seat of Jose Luis Caso, 64, who was killed by ETA gunmen in December while drinking at a bar. Zamarreno is the sixth local politician assassinated in a year.
