Tujunga Wash Development

Re “The Tujunga Washout,” Feb. 15.

As a foothills resident for over 30 years, it saddens me to see the decline of the town of Sunland. I still remember the days my family and I enjoyed the Tujunga Wash. With the passing years, the Foothill-Wentworth area slowly deteriorated. We did our share of policing the trash and debris left by others. We put up signs in English and Spanish, hoping to keep the area clean. Many of us complained by way of letters to the editor. The city’s response was a clutter of “do not litter” signs.

I became hopeful in the mid-80s when Cosmo [World announced] the coming of a $50-million golf course. I am not a golfer. My elation was in knowing the area would be generally upgraded with a badly needed financial boost. For the next 10 years, while a legal battle ensued, the Cosmo project was put on hold. The outcome was a scaled-down proposal squelched by a city council’s “no” vote. As per your article, I see the council is now rethinking its opposition. I hope the naysayers will reconsider their vote in favor of the general growth and security of the populace of Sunland, without the influence of a labor dispute.
