Planting Ideas--Teacher workshops on trees and plants will be offered this month at the Fullerton Arboretum. “Project Learning Tree” is an environmental education program scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. On March 21, plants will be studied to see how they adapt to various environments. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Although the workshops are designed to enhance school curriculum, they are open to the public. Cost is $25 per session. Bird Tracking--The San Diego Bird Atlas project will be the subject of the March 12 meeting of the South Coast chapter of the National Audubon Society. Phil Unitt, head of the Department of Birds and Mammals at the San Diego Natural History Museum and organizer of the project, will give an overview. Rooting for Trees--Prepare for Arbor Day by learning about the trees that grow at the Oak Canyon Nature Center and planting a seedling. The program, for youngsters 7 to 12 years old, runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Cost is $4.50. Tree programs also are planned from 10 to 11 a.m. March 9 for children 2 to 4 and March 12 from 1 to 2 p.m. for those 4 to 6 years old. Cost is $3 per child. Preregistration is recommended. Outdoor View--The wilderness reserve managed by the Rancho Mission Viejo Land Conservancy is home to a variety of wildlife. Learn about the facilities and upcoming programs at a free talk March 10 at the Sea Country Community Center, 24602 Aliso Creek Road, Laguna Niguel.
