Condoms at School

I am a teacher at Bravo Medical Magnet H.S., where the photo was taken that shows students getting a lesson on how condoms function (“Doctor Gives a Prescription for Success to School’s Aspiring Healers” Feb. 27).

The photo does not show that the students not only received free multicolored condoms but also finger condoms and flavored oral lubricants. The students who received the instruction were 10th graders. I believe the distribution of the items mentioned went beyond “safe sex” instruction. Also, the students did not have written parental permission to receive such items or instruction.

I was made aware of this the day after by 10th-grade girls who were offended by the presentation and distribution of sex aids. Their comment to me was, “Why are they encouraging us to have sex?” I am the parent of a young girl. I would be angry if her school made such a presentation without my acknowledgment.
