Cats Held at Shelter

* Re “Humane Society Ordered to Return Cats to Woman,” March 5.

As a volunteer with the Humane Society and a close observer of all the rotten things these people have to deal with, I think it is time to correct a few things on the recent situation of the Brunette cats.

I saw these cats when they were first taken to the shelter and they were a sorry-looking lot. This is all recorded on video. The cats were not imprisoned; they were kept in two rooms with play trees, scratching posts, toys and masses of love and attention by the staff at the shelter.

As far as being kept for three years, we have those wonderful attorneys to thank. Not a thought was given to those animals as motion after motion was filed to stall this lawsuit. The reason it was won by Brunette is a technicality so slight it is not to be believed: She was handed the warrant by the humane officer instead of by the police officer at her side.

The public has no idea of what this hard-working staff has to deal with. I think it is time to wake up and realize what a barbarous place this would be without the Humane Society. So get it together, everyone, and spay or neuter your animals to stop all those left to reproduce and die of starvation.
