Capistrano Valley Wins Swim Meet

Although Capistrano Valley won only three races, the Cougars used their depth to finish with 138 points and edge Villa Park (134) and Santa Margarita (120) in a nonleague girls’ swimming meet Tuesday at Saddleback College.

Amber Stachowski finished first in the 200 freestyle (2 minutes 0.53 seconds) and Catherine McCalley won the 100 butterfly (1:03.07) for the Cougars (2-0).

Santa Margarita’s Jamie Kroeze finished first in the 50 freestyle (25.70 seconds) and 100 freestyle (56.63), and teammate Dominque Rash won the 200 individual medley (2:16.55) and 100 backstroke (1:03.81). The Eagles (0-2) also won two of the three relays.

In other nonleague meets:

Los Alamitos 114, El Dorado 59--Elizabeth Klein won the 100 butterfly (1:04.90) and the 100 freestyle (56.75) and also helped Los Alamitos win the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Santa Margarita 151, Villa Park 134, Capistrano Valley 107--Frank Uxa led the way for Santa Margarita by winning the 100 backstroke (56.86), 100 breaststroke (1:04.80) and anchoring the winning 200 freestyle (1:32.41) and 400 freestyle (3:23.43) relays at Saddleback College.

Laguna Hills 98, Trabuco Hills 70--Dan Herr won the 100 freestyle (49.43), the 500 freestyle (5:19.37) and anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:33.34) and 400 freestyle relay (3:36.06) for Laguna Hills (3-1).

In nonleague badminton:

Century 13, La Quinta 6--Century’s Samuer Por and Hendy Yahya swept in mixed doubles, 15-7, 15-3. Century is 5-0.

In nonleague baseball:

Santa Ana 1, Estancia 0--Luis Curiel pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts for visiting Santa Ana (3-2). Curiel hit a double in the second inning and later stole home on a double steal for the game’s only run.

Buena Park 10, Bolsa Grande 5--Jeremy Tolmasoff had two doubles and four runs batted in for Buena Park (4-1).

Villa Park 8, Garden Grove 7--Charlie Saponara had three hits and three RBIs, driving in the winning run with a single in the sixth for host Villa Park (2-4).

Rancho Alamitos 8, Brethren Christian 5--Winning pitcher Eric Angeles struck out nine, allowing only one earned run in five innings for Rancho Alamitos (4-3).

Dana Hills 11-4, Newport Harbor 1-2--Chris Rosecrans went four for four with five RBIs in the first game and Jesse Gallup (2-0) pitched a complete game and struck out seven for Dana Hills (5-2) in the second game.

Sunny Hills 11-8, Saddleback 2-6--Brad Carmody hit two home runs in the second game for visiting Sunny Hills (4-3). George Seargent hit two doubles to pace a 13-hit attack in the first game for the Lancers. Saddleback is 1-5.

In nonleague golf:

Western 406, Long Beach Jordan 598--Cameron Lee shot a one-over 73 for Western (3-2) at Skylinks and Los Coyotes.

Mater Dei 205, Orange 233--Craig Schwarz shot a one-over 37 for Mater Dei (3-0) at Mile Square.

Fountain Valley 389, Mission Viejo 411--Candie Kung shot a one-over 73 for Fountain Valley (3-1) at Mile Square and Mission Viejo Country Club.

Aliso Niguel 194, Capistrano Valley 199--Sophomore Casey Pete shot a two-under 34 at Marbella for Capistrano Valley (1-3). Mike Kendall shot par 36 for Aliso Niguel (4-0).

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Servite 12, Canyon 6--Ryan Moore swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, in singles for host Servite (5-0). Canyon falls to 4-1.

El Modena 19, Katella 2--Jason Toper won two sets in singles, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with Yun Chang to win in doubles, 6-1, for visiting El Modena (5-0).

Dana Hills 14, Palm Desert 3--Brian Kent swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for Dana Hills.

In nonleague boys’ track:

Western 72, La Habra 63--Richie Gomez won the 100 (10.5), 300 hurdles (50.5) and helped Western’s 440 relay team win in 47.2. Josh Arionus was first in the 220 (25.1) and the long jump (19-6 1/2) for host Western (1-2).

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Villa Park 3, Estancia 1--Erick Helenihi had 38 kills for Villa Park (2-3), which won, 15-12, 15-5, 3-15, 15-12.

Canyon 3, Calvary Chapel 2--Brad Evans had 20 kills as host Canyon rallied to win, 14-16, 15-4, 9-15, 15-10, 15-12.

Costa Mesa 3, Woodbridge 2--B.J. Lightvoet had 41 kills for visiting Costa Mesa (2-1), which won, 17-15, 15-10, 13-15, 14-16, 15-12.
