Deadline Extended for Flood Relief

The deadline for flood victims to apply for disaster assistance has been extended to May 8.

“The extension gives residents whose damage occurred late in the El Nino-generated storms a fair chance to register for assistance,” said Richard Andrews, state coordinating officer for disaster recovery.

So far, $599,659 has been given to 394 Ventura County residents, according to officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and state Office of Emergency Services.

A total of $13.3 million has so far been issued to people in the 40 counties eligible for assistance under the presidential disaster declaration.

FEMA’s disaster housing programs provide several types of assistance for both renters and property owners.

Anyone who sustained damage from the storms beginning Feb. 2 and who lives or works in a disaster-declared county can register for assistance by calling (800) 462-9029. People who are hearing-impaired should call (800) 462-7585.
