Dancers Share the Spotlight With Strippers at New Fuzz on Sunset Blvd.

Go figure, the one night of the year in recent memory Leo wasn’t hanging out on the Hollywood club scene was Oscar Monday, and boy was he missed. In this world, you’re on fire for a nanosecond, and then poof, bye-bye. Ah well, a kid’s gotta get sleep sometime. . . .

Lots of groovy club action out there, though. Although he hasn’t quite worked out the kinks, promoter Justin Petersen is just in time for Hollywood’s kinky comeback. With all the Hollywood scenesters ducking into strip clubs these days, Petersen decided to launch a dance club at a strip club, and once the word gets out, the 3-week-old promo should be pretty groovy. The Sunday night dance club is called Fuzz, and it’s located at the Sunset Strip club, an actual stripper joint on Sunset that looks scary from the outside but is pretty cool inside--it has a dance room and a catwalk, of course, in the main room (lots of gals, too, making the dancers pretty comfortable). . . .

Speaking of oddities (hey, I don’t make this stuff up), the Muthaship has docked at the Queen Mary. The 36-year-old Studio City transvestite club is now the host of Muthaship, a Tuesday night dance club cooked up by such grand deejays as Big Daddy Carlos and Richie Rich, who are promising plenty of old-school mixes and go-go dancers “with a twist.” Hmmm. . . . Great news for those who truly want to keep it real: Club promoter Chris Vargas is throwing a big bash tonight at the El Rey Theatre in L.A. (it’s his birthday, but he doesn’t “want to Hollywood that one,” i.e., milk it). The 23-year-old promoter is bringing back his club, Malathion, for one night, and he’s invited the best independent hip-hop artists from L.A. “Some of these people have been in the scene for 10 years,” says Vargas. It’s going to be a multi-culti night, with the Dilated Peoples, Visionaries, the Urbanites and the Foot Soljaaz performing, as well as champion Beat Junky deejays J-Rocc and Babu waxing in between sets. . . . 212 Soul promoter Jimi Jam is co-sponsoring a showcase with BMI Tuesday at the old Club Lingerie in Hollywood featuring young alternative urban artists.
